We’re excited to announce a major step toward connected cycling. Canyon Bicycles GmbH has revealed that Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technology for e-bikes is moving closer to reality, with beta testing expected as early as next year on a limited number of electric bike models.

This cutting-edge innovation, developed in collaboration with cubesys GmbH - an nfiniity company, enables e-bikes to communicate seamlessly with cars, public transport, and street infrastructure. The goal is to provide riders with intuitive alerts, such as subtle haptic feedback in the grips, when a potential hazard is detected, even if it is hidden around a blind corner or beyond the line of sight. By bridging the communication gap between vehicles and micromobility, this technology aims to reduce collisions and enhance overall urban traffic safety.

At the heart of this breakthrough is our cube:nanoone of the smallest all-in-one V2X On-board Units (OBU) on the market, custom-tailored for seamless in-frame integration into urban e-bikes without compromising style or ergonomics. The cube:nano supports both ITS-G5/DSRC and C-V2X communication standards, ensuring compatibility with existing Connected Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) in Europe and globally.

Apostolos Georgiadis, Co-founder & CEO of cubesys GmbH, comments:

Safety is not a privilege — it should be inclusive. This collaboration is an important initiative for adopting V2X technology on a larger scale in micromobility, improving safety for everyone on the road while helping to reduce overall costs.

The next big step is real world testing. These field trials will collect valuable data on rider behavior, traffic interactions, and system reliability, helping to refine the technology for broader adoption. Insights gained will feed into safety algorithms, enabling predictive alerts for riders and informing future smart-city planning.

This initiative marks an important milestone toward building a safer, smarter mobility ecosystem where cycling and automotive innovation come together. By integrating e-bikes into the EU C-ITS framework, we are helping create an environment where all road users, from cars to public transport to vulnerable road users, can coexist safely, efficiently, and intuitively.

As urban mobility evolves, Canyon Bicycles and cubesys - an nfiniity company are proud to lead the way in demonstrating that micromobility can be as connected and intelligent as any other mode of transport, making cities safer and journeys more predictable for everyone.
